Nobody really checks those things, so just make up some things that sound
impressive. Remember, though, that in a resume, "professional achievements"
doesn't mean what you might think. In a resume, it just means things you
"profess" to have achieved. So you can make up stuff there. But don't make up
anything you list under other skills. That all has to be the truth.

Shirley,

(I'm assuming that you are a developer.)

As a hiring manager, I do look at those things. Don't make stuff up, because it will be exposed in your interviews.

The easy one is "Skills". Under this category, I look for what tools you work with. For example: MS Office, Tableau, Informatica, Cognos, etc.

For "Professional Achievements", it varies. Professional achievements should include anything notable in your career, such as major projects or high visibility work. Examples are: Led a data migration of 26MM records from DB2 to Oracle, Created a loan tracking application which saved the company over $16MM in taxes, or Designed an Excel application that reduced processing time by 90%.

Do you have certifications listed in another place on your resume? If not, I would look for them listed here too. This would be things like: MCSE, CCNA, MCP-Excel, PMP, etc.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Simon,

I answered because this post came up at the top of one of my searches. I didn't realize how old it was until afterwards. Then I figured, you know how these forums work, people (like me) come searching for things years later and it doesn't matter how old the info is as long as it's helpful.

Thanks,
Marvin M
