Default Blanks to Zeros in a formula

Category: Excel: Functions

Hi everyone,

I hope this is a simple issue.

I have a formula in AM10
=AE10-AL10-AN10-AO10-AP10

There are numbers in AE10 and AL10 and nothing in AN10 AO10 and AP10

The result is #VALUE!.

The blank cells are blank because it basically looks prettier than having all those 0.00 there!

How can I get the blank to work as a zero in the formula please?

TIA
Lisa

Hi snb,

I thought it was simple enough to not upload an example.

Ah well... here's one.

The null ("") returned in those cells is like a text string, which you can't add or subtract. The SUM() function ignores nulls and text, so you can use:

My Formula:
=F2-H2-SUM(L2:N2)
copied down.

You're right!!!!

My total sincere apologies!

I'd "copied" the formula incorrectly from your previous post. I thought no need to copy and paste... that'll learn me!!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to get back.

Hugs
Lisa
