Default Hotmail accounts duplicated in Outlook 2003

------ Register to get rid of these "In Post" ads! ------

After installing Outlook Connector for my Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, now
I have duplicate sets of folders for the two Hotmail accounts I use: one that
works and one that simply shows the old mail as it was before installing
Outlook Connector. I can find no way to remove the now non-functional
duplicates of my Hotmail accounts. Not via Tools>E-Mail Accounts because they
don't appear there. Deleting the associated data files didn't work either.

My OS is Windows XP SP3.

It's simply annoying but not a major issue. I was wondering if anyone else
has reported this issue and if anyone has been able to resolve it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

By simply deleting the data files you've corrupted your mail profile. You'll
probably need to create a new one to clear up your problem, but this might

I didn't delete the data files until after nothing else worked. I've still
got the data files and have restored them no problem. Nothing has changed in
the respective duplicate accounts since they no longer receive mail or allow
mail to be deleted. Only the new duplicate accounts created by installing
Outlook Connector are able to receive, send and delete mail.

I've tried going to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files and selected
the respective accounts then clicked on Remove, but I get a message saying
"This data file is associated with a mail account. To remove it use the
'E-mail Accounts' command on the Tools menu." In other words, what it is
telling me to do isn't working because the duplicate accounts do not appear
on my E-mail Accounts list. Only the newly created MAPI Hotmail accounts
appear there. Do I need to delete them and add them back again?

You do not need to (and cannot) add Hotmail PSTs bak into Outlook. Since
Hotmail accounts keep all the data on the server, simply re-add the account
and allow Outlook to create a new PST for that account.

OK, I found the fix but it wasn't anything as difficult as has been suggested
here by either one of us (though I certainly do appreciate the help, Brian!).

To remove the duplicate accounts I simply right-clicked on the folder for
the account in the expanded tree in Outlook and selected "Close {account
address}".

It actually fixed two problems. First of course, the duplicate account
disappeared. But second, when I installed Outlook Connector I noticed that
the titles for all my e-mails changed from the sender's name to their e-mail
address. After deleting the duplicates and closing and reopening Outlook now
the addresses for those e-mails already downloaded switch back to the name
when I select them, and new e-mails now download as before showing the
sender's name.

This easy solution was only discovered through trial and error. I never
found any information covering this problem or how to resolve it, so I hope
this message serves to help others with a similar situation as I'm sure I
wasn't the only person this happened to.

Maybe the solution sounds easy, but after becoming accustomed to adding and
removing accounts via the Tools > E-mail Accounts configuration it was not
apparent to me to simply delete the duplicate account as one would any other
folder, and thus the result of selecting the "Close {account}" option was not
clear or predictable.

I'm happy. =)
